Trust. Why It's Important In Business And Life!

Writer: Christian J. FarberChristian J. Farber

If you trust someone, perhaps that is as good as it gets.

I wonder if “This is all there is?”

We got here somehow; are making the best of it; will die; and then what?

Some say: “We have all we need!”

I say: “No Way!”

If I don’t know what is going to happen in the next period, interaction or encounter with people, mother nature or technology; how can I possibly say I have what I need to deal with it?

I believe: “We have no idea what we will need for whatever might be coming.” I often say to family and friends “I can’t see around the corner" when I am confused or am struggling for an answer. Often, this is responded to with them saying, “Chris, I don’t understand what you mean.” In business, it is easier to rely on data to help make and back up decisions, but you don’t always have that option in daily life which is much more fluid and unpredictable.

I have been through a lot in my life and experiences. I believe I have some time to go before I get the real answer. Despite knowing the truth I may just be able to impact others in a positive way in business and beyond.

I have lived my life walking in my own footsteps at times and forming new footpaths on other occasions.

Whether I am walking along a familiar path or venturing for a new one, there is only one thing that I hold true to myself and that is; trust. If you don’t trust yourself and those you surround yourself with in your family, work, and friendship, you have no chance. If you question family, you are in a whole new world of hurt that may only exacerbate a bad situation. I have examined the trust of many, any and all along my journey and believe my experience is not entirely unique.

To be successful in work you have to trust your co-workers and that the leadership team is heading you in the right direction. You also have to trust your products and services will deliver as sold and your clients want to have a productive experience with you. A breakdown in any of these areas introduces risk, and the model starts to crumble. I focus a lot on the trust that needs to be alive and well in the C-suite. You need a posse in the C-suite if you are going to take on tough challenges and dare to be "Great" for your customers. If you have what you need amongst the core group of executives, it will take on a life of its own and spread throughout all levels of your company. You will develop a culture of trust that will help you deliver well beyond your competition. Believe me, your clients will love you for it.

So, whether it is who you share love with, hang with, believe in or work with - maintaining a floor of trust that is impenetrable is essential for commercial success to emotional prosperity. Full trust and the resulting emotional success may not ensure that we have everything we need, but may just be the only thing we do need.

My best, Chris
